Learn more about BEES!

Jonathan Simkins

Africanized Bee/ Yellow Jacket training sessions. These sessions are free of cost for city and county municipalities and are very Informative.

Africanized Honey Bees (AHB or "Killer Bees") are now resident in the entire state of Florida and increasing substantially in numbers. Sting Incidents between these defensive bees and outdoor staff are increasing, as well as incidents occurring with state citizens as well. Many of these incidents are caused by improper insecticide treatments or other attempted control activities, which is quite unfortunate.

Audiences

Our most popular format for general audiences is an informative & entertaining 50 minute PowerPoint presentation, which fulfills most CEU requirements. As we perform daily bee removals for municipalities & utilities state wide, we inject plenty of 'real-world examples of what outdoor staff can encounter, including video & photography and discuss real cases.

Topics

Topics covered can include (dependent on the time allotted):

  • Commonly encountered Bees & Wasps,
  • Basic bee & wasp life history,
  • Colony Collapse disorder,
  • Differences between European and African honey bees,
  • Physiological response to Bee & wasp stings
  • Current status of wild bees (including African Honey Bees) in Florida,
  • Bee infestation signs while in the field,
  • Recommendations for removal including personal, bystander, and citizen safety; and liability considerations,
  • Photos & videos of actual incidents we have encountered, with discussion.

If you are interested, feel free to send me available dates and we can work up a date and time that works for us both. We can talk via voice anytime to discuss this further.
